Roof Wind Damage Repair Ogden UT

Wind Damage Repair in Ogden & Northern Utah

Protect Your Home with Local Roofing Experts Who Know Utah Weather

When strong winds barrel through Ogden and Northern Utah, your roof is often the first line of defense—and the first thing to take a hit. At The Roofing Experience, we specialize in helping homeowners recover from wind damage fast, affordably, and with long-lasting solutions that are built for the next storm. We focus exclusively on residential roofing, and we’ve seen firsthand how mountain weather can tear up shingles, compromise underlayment, and lead to costly water damage if not addressed quickly.

The good news? We offer free roof inspections after major wind events so you can find out exactly what’s going on up there—without guessing or risking a climb up the ladder yourself.

How Do You Know if Wind Damaged Your Roof?

The truth is, you might not. Wind damage isn’t always dramatic or immediately visible. While winds over 50 mph can cause obvious issues, even lower wind speeds can loosen shingles or damage the components beneath them.

You might not see a gaping hole or a steady leak, but subtle signs—like a damp attic or bald spots on your shingles—are warning signs that shouldn’t be ignored. Small issues turn into big problems fast when water has a way in.

Common signs of wind damage to your roof include:

  • Missing or torn shingles
  • Bald or smooth spots where granules have come off
  • Loose debris on your roof or in gutters
  • Dents from falling branches or flying debris
  • Clogged or broken gutters
  • Moisture buildup or staining in your attic
  • Mold or mildew forming inside

Let’s break these down a little more so you know what to look for—or what we’ll be checking during your free inspection.

Roof Wind Damage Repair in Ogden

Missing Shingles: The First Red Flag

When winds whip through Northern Utah, they can lift and completely rip shingles from your roof. That’s a big problem, because your shingles are the outer shield that protects everything underneath—from your roof deck to your insulation and drywall.

Even one missing shingle can expose your roof to moisture. If you spot a bare patch or find shingles in your yard after a storm, give us a call right away. We’ll inspect for lifted shingles too—sometimes they haven’t fully blown off, but they’re no longer sealed properly and can let water in.

Bald Shingles and Granule Loss

Asphalt shingles are covered in tiny granules that help reflect UV rays and shed water. High winds can knock these granules loose, leaving your shingles looking “bald” or patchy. Without their protective coating, the shingles break down faster and offer less defense.

Check your gutters, driveway, or the ground around your home after a storm. If you notice an unusual amount of granules, it’s time for a closer look at your roof.

Debris Damage: The Silent Roof Killer

It doesn’t take a massive branch to cause serious problems. Even small debris like twigs or blown-around items can crack, puncture, or shift shingles out of place. The impact might not leave a visible dent right away, but it can weaken the integrity of your roofing materials—and water will find those weak points every time.

We use quality roofing products from Malarkey, which are made to handle Utah’s wind and weather. But no matter how tough your shingles are, direct hits from flying debris still warrant an inspection.

Dented or Lifted Shingles

If you spot dents or unusual marks on your shingles, it usually means debris made contact—and the structure of the shingle might be compromised. Cracks and curling edges often follow. Even if your shingles look mostly intact, dents can allow water to seep in between layers.

Lifted shingles, on the other hand, may not show physical damage right away but can break their seal with the roof deck. That means they’re vulnerable to being ripped off entirely during the next windstorm.

Gutters: The Unsung Heroes (When They’re Working)

Wind damage isn’t limited to the shingles themselves. Your gutters and downspouts play a major role in directing water away from your roof and foundation. After a windstorm, gutters often get clogged with leaves, twigs, and roofing granules.

If your gutters overflow or aren’t draining properly, water can back up under your shingles or sit around your home’s perimeter, eventually leading to rot or foundational issues.

Check for:

  • Sagging or pulled-away gutter sections
  • Overflowing water during rain
  • Piles of debris near the gutter line
  • Water stains on your siding

We always include a full gutter check during our post-storm inspections.

Moisture in the Attic: A Sneaky Sign of Trouble

If you can safely access your attic, take a peek after a major windstorm. Look for:

  • Water stains or damp spots on the wood
  • Insulation that feels wet or clumpy
  • A musty or moldy smell
  • Visible frost buildup during winter

These are signs that water is getting in—maybe not pouring through the ceiling yet, but still causing serious damage behind the scenes.

Mold and Mildew Growth: When Small Leaks Turn Serious

One of the biggest dangers of undetected wind damage is mold. You might not notice a leak until it’s too late, especially if the water is slowly seeping in behind the walls or ceiling.

Mold and mildew thrive in moist environments, and your attic is the perfect breeding ground if your roof isn’t sealed tight. Not only can mold ruin your insulation and wood framing, but it can also pose health risks for you and your family.

We always recommend calling in a professional if you notice:

  • Black or green staining on ceilings or walls
  • A persistent musty smell in your home
  • Increased allergy symptoms indoors
  • Mold spots in your attic or crawlspace

The Roofing experiance is a great company to work with, Edgar will 100% do what ever it takes to make sure youre Roofing experiance a good one. His crews are true craftsman and respectful of youre home. The reason I chose the Roofing Experiance is that I was able to see the work he did on a neighboring property , the roof replacement he did looked great , and the way his crew conducted themselves was admirable . There were a few hiccups due to Utahs unpredictable weather, but it did not take away from the end result which was perfection. It was truly a pleasure entrusting Edgar with my roof.

Really appreciate the prompt and detailed customer service. They installed our roof before we bought the house and when we had issues with a cap leaking they came to the rescue. It was outside of their warranty but came out and replaced it for my satisfaction.

My husband and I bought a house that unfortunately had a damaged, leaking roof with poorly installed gutters, which led to extensive mold damage. Our mold remediation company recommended Edgar and The Roofing Experience for the reroof. Since the mold company deals with the consequences of poorly installed roofs every day, we took that recommendation very seriously. Our roof was a complicated replacement. It still had the original cedar shakes beneath two layers of asphalt shingles, all over skip sheathing with no solid decking, so everything had to be torn off and rebuilt. We also had two crumbling chimneys that needed to be removed. We got several quotes, and Edgar’s was significantly less expensive than the other top-quality bids, with an excellent warranty, and confidence that he and his crew knew what they were doing. He took the time to listen to all of our concerns, walked us through the options, and explained the reasoning behind each recommendation without ever making us feel pressured. One thing that really stood out was that Edgar's crew are all W-2 employees rather than whichever subcontractors happen to be available that week. That gave us a lot of confidence that the quality of the installation would be consistent, and the crew absolutely lived up to that expectation. They were professional, courteous, and handled the unexpected discovery of a family of SIX RACCOONS living in one of the chimneys with good judgment and a positive attitude. Our neighbors, who are not easily impressed, even commented on how professional the crew was. They took care to protect the property, did a thorough nail sweep that even included our neighbors' yard, and left the job site clean every day. Edgar also went above and beyond in small ways that made a big difference. He left the dumpster for an extra weekend so we could dispose of insulation my husband was removing from the attic, which saved us a tremendous amount of hassle. He also left us with gutter color samples so we could take our time choosing a color that we liked because he understood this was a long-term investment. I highly recommend Edgar and The Roofing Experience. They delivered excellent workmanship, honest communication, fair pricing, and outstanding customer service from start to finish. We now have peace of mind knowing that our roof was done right and will last for decades.

My realtor recommended Edgar and I’m so happy she did. We talked to many roofing companies in the area, but I felt Edgar was the best man for this job. Edgar and his team did such an amazing job on my house roof + detached unit roof as well! He’s super knowledgeable and loves to educate you on what you’re getting. Him and his team were working on our house within 2 weeks of signing our contract, were super clean and professional, and done within 2 days! My upstairs is already significantly cooler with the upgraded roof system. Super happy with the outcome! It looks amazing

  • How do I know if my roof has wind damage after a storm in Ogden or Northern Utah?

Wind damage isn’t always obvious. While missing shingles are a clear red flag, many signs are subtle—like granule loss, lifted or dented shingles, debris in gutters, or moisture in the attic. In Ogden and across Northern Utah, winds over 50 mph can cause real damage. If you’ve had a recent storm, it’s smart to get a free roof inspection from a local expert familiar with our unique weather conditions.
  • What should I do if I find shingles in my yard after a windstorm?

If you find loose or missing shingles after a storm, it’s a sign your roof’s protective layer has been compromised. Even one missing shingle can expose your roof to water damage. Homeowners in Ogden and Northern Utah should call a trusted local roofer right away for a wind damage inspection—before minor issues become major leaks.
  • Can high winds really cause roof leaks even if there are no visible signs?

Windstorms often clog or damage gutters, leading to improper drainage. In Ogden and Northern Utah, this can cause water to back up under your roof shingles or pool around your home’s foundation. Gutters filled with leaves, granules, or branches can cause just as much trouble as roof damage itself. A full gutter check should always be part of a wind damage roof inspection.
  • Is a professional roof inspection really necessary after a windstorm in Utah?

Yes—especially here in Northern Utah, where wind damage often flies under the radar. A trained local roofer knows how to spot lifted shingles, hidden moisture, and damage to Malarkey roofing systems. Inspections are typically free and can help you catch problems early, document for insurance, and avoid paying out of pocket for larger repairs down the road.
